Lauda Musicam provides an opportunity to perform Baroque repertoire through our Baroque Orchestra. Repertoire is primarily from the Baroque period, generally defined as 1600–1750, representing composers such as Telemann, Vivaldi, Bach, Monteverdi, Purcell, and others. Participation in the Baroque Orchestra is by audition only; all Baroque Orchestra members must be members of Lauda Musicam.

Instruments

The Lauda Baroque Orchestra has a core ensemble of violin, viola, cello, string bass, and keyboard basso continuo. Many performances also utilize woodwinds and other string instruments, such as flute, oboe, bassoon, recorder, guitar, lute, and theorbo. The Orchestra performs at the standardized Baroque pitch of a=415, and members are generally expected to own their instruments. Lauda has a small inventory of Baroque instruments to lend.

String players use Baroque style bows and strings that are appropriate for period performance. Modern instruments are not used in the Baroque orchestra.
