English Masters of the Theatre and Court—Lauda Musicam Baroque Orchestra. By the end of the 17th century, a growing middle class created a demand for musical and theatrical productions, while the availability of sheet music and instruments in shops resulted in a more musically-literate society.  Lauda Baroque will perform selections by Henry Purcell, John Blow, and George Frideric Handel—three of the central figures in 17th and 18th century England—while also paying homage to other composers who helped bring music to the masses.   St, Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 1790 Lavista Road, Atlanta, GA 30329. $20 suggested donation; no one turned away.

    Rewind 500—Lauda Musicam Renaissance Band
. The 16th century was nothing short of pivotal.  The invention of movable type helped usher in the age of modern music, while significant advances in science, increased global exploration, and the Protestant Reformation all helped shape the direction of the arts and humanities.  Lauda Musicam celebrates the High Renaissance composers whose influences are still strong today—even if historical events weren’t always as beautiful as the music left behind! Holy Trinity Parish, 515 E. Ponce de Leon Avenue, Decatur, GA 30030. Admission is free; donations gratefully accepted.

The Gods Inspir’d—Lauda Musicam Renaissance Band. The Roman gods live on through names of the months, the days of the week, the celestial bodies, and so much more.  These deities were credited with ruling over the dawn, the wind, war, and even other gods and goddesses.  The stories of these mythical figures provided fodder for exceptional music during the Renaissance period and inspired composers to find creative ways to tell colorful stories through music.   Holy Trinity Parish, 515 E. Ponce de Leon Avenue, Decatur, GA 30030.  The concert is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.
