Many of the musical instruments of the Renaissance period bear little outward resemblance to those found in a 21st century orchestra, but they aren’t necessarily as crude as they might appear. Advancements in scientific knowledge, influences of a variety of cultures, and availability of resources all played a significant role in the evolution of instruments, making them the right tools for the time. Lauda’s capped reed ensemble, flute ensemble, viola da gamba ensemble, and others perform works for matched consorts and mixed ensembles in this showcase of the smaller groups within Lauda Musicam.
